  Hallelujah. We're in a uh we're in a series called know the fullness of Christ's love in Ephesians. And um how many here this morning remember when you've growing up and maybe your parents led you through a prayer? Anybody anybody remember any of that? Uh now I lay me down to sleep. I pray dear Lord my sin. You prayed that too. Um we used to pray over the boys and uh they would repeat after me or or their mom. Lord help me to be Lord help me to be a mighty man of God. A mighty man of God. And um you know prayers do stick and uh sometimes repetition is uh is quite neat. But I remember about prayers um certain prayers that's certain people prayed a certain way. I I was I've been in prayer meetings where uh somebody would pray and it's it would seem like they had just been with Jesus in the other room and they walked in. Uh there were others that uh you know when you lead with uh um the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob um I mean you know we're going somewhere uh that way. But um uh I often see this this emoji of of prayer. I think we have a picture of that. Um I like I like sending it. They have the new ones now. you can put your face behind it and and and pray. But, you know, if we eased dropped on prayer out of the book of Ephesians, we eased dropped on prayer out of out of uh God's word. Um, we can listen into the Apostle Paul tell the church of Ephesus what he prays for them. And this prayer isn't what you might normally uh pray for someone or it's not normally something that maybe you hear. And although uh they lived in a a hostile uh community at the time, Paul doesn't pray for God to protect them. And uh I remember the prayers, you know, Lord, put a hedge about them. You ever you ever get the hedge prayer, put a hedge of fire, you add fire to it, it's even better, right? Put a hedge of fire around them to protect them. Uh although some of them may have been sick or poor, Paul doesn't pray for healing or for financial stability. And although some of them may be wrestling with sadness or hurt, Paul doesn't pray for happiness for them. So here he is. He's leading in the book of book of Ephesians. And what Paul prays for is so much deeper than just the normal prayers. And maybe uh maybe yours too. I hope today for the next few moments as we uh stay in Ephesians 1 that you will see a model. Um it's going to be very simple. uh if you blink, you may miss it, but it's going to be very very simple and very very uh purposeful uh in in this morning. But this is my prayer for you. We see in uh Ephesians 1 uh 15-16, for this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for God, God's all all God's people, I have not stopped thinking, giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all God's people, I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers. Father, for the next few moments, Lord, uh I I pray that our eyes would be open, Lord, to what you would have for us here out of your word, out of this book of Ephesians. Speak to us, we pray in Jesus name. I don't want to sound overly dramatic this morning, but I truly believe that this message and this moment is massive to the future of this church, is massive to the future of this body of us coming together. If you remember a couple weeks ago, Pastor Nick four talked about the Holy Spirit and how uh Paul says there was a guarantee. He guaranteed our inheritance until we acquire uh of its possession. Talk through how the Holy Spirit is in you. Talk about how how the Holy Spirit leads us and it sure could be sometimes through miraculous signs and wonders. But the truth is, if you confess Jesus as your Lord, you have the desire to live a holy life and you have a desire to be on a mission for his purpose like we uh do when we enter into his gates with thanksgiving and praise. But ultimately, here's Paul and he's and he's leading to this community of believers for this reason. Ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and your love for God's people, there's a lot of love in the house today. There's a lot of love uh with one another and encouragement. So he's talking to us today and he says, you know, even though uh you're Gentiles and again there was a huge separation back in the day, you have the spirit of God in you. You have the spirit in you. And he goes on and uh uh he he shares about he shares about how we have love towards other saints and we have love towards one another. And if our we have love towards one another, Jesus says uh they will know us by our love and they they will know us as his disciples because that how we love each other, how people see us love each other. And so he says, I have not stopped giving thanks for you remembering you in my prayers. So Paul says, "Because of your love for each other, I have this love for you and I am always thanking God for you and I'm remembering you in my prayers." And so here is the quick big large humongous ginormous question today. How many minutes did you spend this week praying for the church? How many minutes did you spend praying for the pastors of this church? Was it 30 seconds? Was it maybe a minute? Here's Paul. He's praying for a group of people and he's leading in this and and we're going to get to it in one one second. But this is a very revealing question for us all. Remember I said a little while ago, I believe for the future of this body and for the future of this church. How much time did you spend praying for others this week? And often it's crazy how self-centered we are and me included. How I unless I purposefully do it. Um I want to pray about me. I want to pray about I want to pray about number one. I think it's a country song. Um, but when it comes down to it, are we purposeful in fulfilling the call that God has on us? It'll be hard to pinpoint this, but sometimes we uh go into this field mode. I feel like praying, I don't feel like praying. I can't tell you there's a I mean, there are moments that I feel called to pray, but unless you purpose in your life to pray, often times on a routine basis, it may not happen. If there's not a time you've set aside to say, you know, I'm going to pray or I'm going to pray when I get around to it. Around to it often doesn't not come back around. And then if you're praying for other people, what do you pray for them? How do you pray for them? And and and this morning, my prayer is that you're going to walk out of this place and you're going to see this prayer and you're going to see how God could possibly really really use this moment. So, if you're taking notes this morning, just a couple couple thoughts. The first is this. that you may know God in verse 17. So Paul says this, I keep asking that God that God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious father may give you the spirit of wisdom and revelation. I know there maybe those are big words and maybe something you don't use in in your in your terminology normally. You know, I'm praying for revelation over your life or wisdom over your life, but ultimately praying for a spirit of wisdom and revelation so that you may know him better. And what Paul is praying here, he's praying for the father of glory to reveal himself. Would you give them the spirit of wisdom and revelation? And so, you know, again, maybe it's not a normal normally part of your uh your wording, normally part of the the the your speech, but when it all comes down to it, wisdom and revelation, the word of God through the Holy Spirit, that we would see, that we would hear, that we would know, we've got to understand um who are who we are in him. And I pray that God would give the spirit of wisdom and revelation. Acts six uses spirit and wisdom to mean the Holy Spirit. Paul's praying for the believers to know Christ by being filled with the Holy Spirit and by understanding God's word. It's powerful. We again we've been in this journey in in Ephesians that we would embrace the power of the Holy Spirit and that he would lead us and that he would speak to us. And if just the Bible without the Holy Spirit, we're going to have a hard time understanding it. But when wisdom and revelation come together, it changes everything. Anybody checking with me this morning? And so here is Paul saying to the to Ephesus, he's saying, "Here, get this. Receive this. Realize this in this moment. This is what I'm praying for you that you would have wisdom and revelation." And this is a prayer that we should and could pray for one another. Lord, give Stacy wisdom and revelation in Jesus name. Amen. Lord give blame wisdom and revelation in Jesus name as he navigates as he grows. Uh a simple uh uh definition of wisdom the quality of having experience knowledge good judgment the quality of being wise revelation uh surprising and previously unknown fact especially one that is made known in a dramatic way and this is big. Then we move to the next next verse verse 18. That I may have hope. I pray that the eyes of your heart be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you. And I I I I love I love this idea and I want you to get this this morning that you know what is he talking about? You know this thing that pumps pumps out of me? He's talking about the mission control center of your life. The thing that sees everything that's the thing that everything kind of filters through in your life. And maybe it's metaphorical uh this morning in some ways, but the idea that uh the core being has eyes, that your core has the ability to make right decisions and purposeful decisions and godly decisions to hear, to see, to receive. And sometimes when when we pray that and sometimes um it's kind of like growing up uh having the kids grow up in the house raising raising four sons, you know, we would say, "Hey guys, go clean your room. Go clean up that go clean up that uh bonus room, you know, where there's Legos everywhere around and they go in there and uh they come out an hour later and there was hardly anything moved. In fact, there was maybe more stuff that was put out and and after a while it would get it would get ch a little challenging but they f finally when they begin to mature through wisdom and revelation of the father natural father they began to understand and they began to be able to embrace that oh after the hundth time the 101th time they decided you know what oh this is what he actually means and so in the lives that we live and the in the places and the and the way that we live and as we journey here that we come to the place where Lord I pray for wisdom and revelation in my brother in my sister and that the eyes of their heart would be enlightened that they can truly see and realize almost like the Jonathan moments as he testified this morning of God's goodness he was kind of going through it he had the wisdom and revelation but finally his eyes were open to realize God I'm going to trust you God I'm going to believe. And we find ourselves, whether you've been saved for 10 years, whether you've been saved for 30 years, whether you've been saved for two years, when it comes down to it, we're challenged in these moments. We're challenged in the moments of saying, "God, I believe. I got God, I believe, but Lord, help me in my unbelief." I remember I remember years ago there was a guy there was a guy uh I worked with, his name was um his name was was Nick as well. He was called Nick the Greek. And uh why he was called Nick the Greek, I don't know. Well, he was a Greek. And so he was very he was very lurggical. And I see some of you guys shivering so I'm changing the air conditioner. Uh sorry about that. Only I'm only Yeah. Anyway, and so uh his name was Nick the Greek. And so in in these moments um I was the young guy was Nicki. He was Nick the Greek. So two Nicks on the on the crew. And um we worked for Levier Construction. We'd laid bricks. We built houses. And uh he was very very lurggical, you know, knew knew certain things to pray, how to pray things from a a Greek Orthodox uh background. And uh but he wasn't living for the Lord. I mean, there was nothing about him living for the Lord. Here I'm this young uh just out of high school. I'm working. I'm the guy running to the shop, coffee shop for lunch, you know, picking up what what these guys need. And um and so we would talk about things and and uh he'd go to New York City uh every weekend, come back and and he was dating this dating this young lady that was there and and he was all he'd show in late and I had to cover for him and and all this and but finally during this time he came to me and he and uh we we talk about the Lord, you know, even as a as a 18-year-old, I may not had all the stuff to say, you know, ministry wise, but you know, just the goodness of God in my life. And so finally, he came to me. He's like, "I know what I need to do. I need to talk to your father." And he's talking to me and he knew my dad was in the ministry. And uh so I'm like, "Oh, okay." You know, and so so there was a Wednesday night service coming up and we live right next to the church and a church parsonage. And so Nick the Greek shows up. He comes he comes into the parsonage. My dad leads him back to the Lord right there in that moment. Guess why? because the eyes of his heart were opened because there was wisdom and revelation taking place and there was this aha moment. Number of years ago I we counseledled this this couple here at the church. It was years ago. Don't try to figure out who it is. You'll have no idea who this is. And um uh there was some bad stuff going on in in this in this couple. And uh the the the guy was being unfaithful. Um she wanted to stay together. um they had sat into the teaching here. Uh they they had been part of what was going on here in in in the house. And um I remember sitting down and and praying and and and sharing and and crying and you know uh counseling uh with Kim uh the the wife and and then the guy would show up and and it was it was it was a rough go touch and go back and forth back and forth and all we could do is pray, you know, and I I would I call him out by name. And I'm like, you know what the right thing to do is here. You you know what has to take place here. And it was, you know, you what do they say? You can lead a horse to water, but you can't. And so here I am, Lord. Here's wisdom, Lord, with your revelation. Here's your word. And then finally, in this moment, he says, I know what I need to do. I need to get back with my wife. Need to get back with her. We sent him to counseling. U we we walked through uh the whole thing. God brought them back together and it was just uh it it was it was wonderful for that moment. But there are the there are these moments that you know it's kind of like you know God can you really move you know we we come across difficult situations but is it purposeful that we would actually pray this prayer this meaningful prayer that Paul prays over a body of believers that are maybe going through it or maybe being hit by inflation or being hit by uh things in government and and going through situations where they're not quite sure how things are going to work God, the riches of his grace are going to be poured upon you. And so trying to imagine trying to imagine the seriousness of his presence in our life and the presence in our purpose and the presence as we walk. And I think that this morning I I I submit to you that our that our prayer and our relationship with the Lord is more than a free pass. That we're not going to hell, but our relationship with the Lord is more of a relationship with the Lord. That we are um that we are purposeful that we're going to spend eternity with him. And that this time on this earth at this moment is so short in conjunction. And yet we put all our eggs in this basket. So I encourage you, I'll just say it out loud. When we come and we worship the Lord, it don't matter if they're in key, out of key, in your range, not in your range, whether the drums are loud or this, you need to be practicing because you're going to be doing this the rest of your life. If you are a a child of the king, a son and a daughter, you know, and whether you like hymns, you can you can put a you can put a uh stands on the end, sing it at your own beat, make a joyful noise to the Lord, but learn to worship him and be purposeful about that because we will spend eternity with him. And I ask you to pray for me. I ask you to pray for this church. You know, uh, I can't put my finger on this, but I I could specifically say I had some great aunts, aunts, if you may say aunts, I say aunts, in my life, who uh uh they they loved me. And I actually recognized in in in my life when they went on to be with the Lord, I knew they prayed for me daily. I could actually sense that, you know, that maybe this this these prayers weren't taking place. I sense that when my mom went went to heaven a couple years ago that you know she was a gap filler. She stood in the gap. She would intercede. She would pray and how important it is for us in community. See, you think it's all about you. You think it's all about what you need. You think it's all about, you know, the, you know, living your best life, which I believe you can do. But it's about being God's hands and being God's feet. And sometimes, you know what? It took me a while for Nick the Greek to come around. The other day I was I I flew up to Syracuse, New York this past week for a uh retirement party for a a leader within the Assemblies of God. And uh so my second flight from Dallas to uh Syracuse, this um young lady uh comes and and sits next to me and um she I I don't there was there were probably some things going on in her life and uh she was kind of scantily dressed uh as it was and then she sat down, took her sweatshirt off, she was even more scantily dressed uh sitting next to me and um so I just kind of picked up conversation and she she showed me her phone. And she's like, "I'm going home to see my son." Going home to see my son. And uh so I asked the question, you know, where you been? You know, is Syracuse your home? Well, I've been living I've been living uh in in Florida in an area. Been there about a year, but I I I just need to go back and I said, "Well, who's your son been with?" My mom. And uh but she showed me this video and and everything. And in in the meantime, um she's vaping. And you know, you're not supposed to vape on a plane. I I don't think, right? It's kind of like, do I raise my hand? man. Hey, hey, right here. You know, you know, and I'm like, man, and uh Yeah. Yeah. Exactly. And I'm just like, oh, and you know what I began to do? Lord, give me an opportunity here. And so, uh um she's fidgety. I mean, I I don't know if there was some stuff involved. And uh yeah, you know, and uh so then I I I never identify to her because I don't think I need to identify what I do. But I say I say to her, I said, "Hey," I said, "I just I just feel I need to tell you a couple things." And she kind of looked at me almost like surprised, but also challenged that I was going to tell her something, you know, like, you know, nobody's going to tell me anything, but I just said, "Hey, listen. I think that your these next couple weeks um I just thought the Lord download this to me. The next couple weeks are going to be very challenging for you. I said, "But you're going to make it and you're going to overcome." I said, "But don't" I said, "Choose to lose when you can win." I said, "Give incredible grace to your mom. Give incredible grace because she's been raising your son, but you know what? God's going to open up some doors and you know, I'm using the the the name God and and uh and all that." And she's like, "Well, thank you for sharing that." and she shared a few more things and I think she laid back and and and uh took took a quick nap and um so she she gets back up and I I uh she's talking about something and I I just and usually I don't I usually don't talk to many people on the plane and so this is kind of kind of one of those things. She she kind of looks at me after after taking another hit on her on her vape and you know it's all around. And I'm like, Lord, it's, you know, I said, um, I called her by name and I said, "Hey, would you mind if I prayed prayed for you?" And, uh, she's kind of smiled at me. I said, "Do you believe in God?" And, uh, she's like, "Yeah, I believe in God." I'm like, "Are you living for God?" She's like, "I need to I need to work in a few different areas," she says to me. And I said, "Well, I want to pray for you." The plane's getting ready to land. So, uh, just grab her hand and and we pray and and, uh, you know, not nothing incredible except for I've been prepping for this message and I asked Lord that you would give her wisdom and revelation and that you would open the eyes of her heart. Now, that's even like a little newagy, you know, for some people. So, maybe she's gonna she's going to get that at that point. And then you know in in Jesus name, amen. I didn't lead with you know God the father of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob. It was just a simple simple prayer. Call her son out by name. I ask God to bless her and lead her and and protect her. And uh she gets done uh we get done and uh she's crying and she says, you know, you're not the first person who has asked to pray for me. And I said, well, God has has highlighted you. God has taken the marker out and you are highlighted to him. and I just believe that God has amazing things for you. Now, here's here's here's the here's the the truly just the simple end of the story. I can make this I I I could show you what didn't happen. What didn't happen was she didn't get on her knees and and and confess the Lord Jesus Christ and lead her through the sinner's prayer. But I can tell you in that moment, I truly believe that God began to shift things. I could feel things begin to shift in her spirit and in her heart. And these are the simple prayers that we can pray because it's about the inheritance that we are to help give to other people and it's about the inheritance that we are going to be. Scripture goes on and says this in verse 18. It's on the screen. I know it says this. I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in his holy people. Now, I can tell you been around for some time. This is open to interpretation. Just hear me today, chew on it. But think about this. There's a there's a uh a commentary and there's a teaching that shares this out of the Living Bible. It says this, I want you to realize that God has been made rich because we who are Christs have been given to him. And what this talks about, you know, I think for maybe for many of us in the room, maybe maybe you're looking for an inheritance one day. Maybe in the natural, you're looking for inheritance here on this earth. But the scripture is indicating that there's inheritance that we'll have. You know, I've got a mansion just over the hilltop in that bright land where, you know, streets of gold that we're we're going to we're going to live. No more sickness, no more no more uh uh illness, no more depression, no more anxiety in Jesus name. Amen. And we can live heaven on earth uh even here in this place. But maybe this is just just just for me, but I'm just going to toss it out to you. Do you realize you are part of God's inheritance? Think about that. You are part of the benefit that he's receiving one day when we get to heaven. So, what would what would change in your life today to prepare yourself for that moment? See, we're all about today. We're all about the economy today. Getting our taxes done today, getting our uh 401k done today, making sure, you know, the uh the bushes are trimmed, the grass is cut, you know, there's food in the fridge. But what about eternity? And what about the future? It's his inheritance. Whose inheritance? God's inheritance. That we're his inheritance. We are his inheritance. I thought that was cool. Maybe maybe not. I I can I can see it's gone over like a lead balloon, but uh it's okay. Yeah, it's pretty cool is that uh when we understand the riches of his glorious inheritance we have in the almighty that we and he can't wait to inherit. We can't wait to inherit. Here's what begins to happen in our lives. We stop with criticism. We stop with um saying to ourselves, we're not good enough. We stop with this uh thought of um we're not smart enough. We we stop we stop um blaming uh this on this person or blaming this on that person and whatever it is. And now suddenly to believe from your heart that the eyes of your heart are enlightened and you go he loves me and I'm his glorious inheritance. I know it's rich and and maybe a different different way to hear the word this morning. very uh teaching teaching mode but we are his inheritance. Ephesians chapter 3 says now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that you ask or think according to the work according to him inside of you the power that's inside of you. And then the scripture goes on in verses 19 to 23 that you may know the father's power in verse 19 and is incomparably great power for us to believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at the right hand in the heavenly realms, far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that he invoked, not only in the present age, but also in the one to come. And God placed all things under his feet and appointed him to be head over everything for the church which is his body. The fullness of him who fills everything in every way. And this is the picture of the power that was set forth by Christ when he was raised from the dead. The same spirit that raised Christ from the dead dwells in us and it quickens our mortal body. It quickens your mind. I used to pray that before exams. Lord, I am not the smartest guy in the room right now, but father touch this brain right now. But he does a he does a mighty thing in our lives. He takes the death and lifeless bodies and God brings it back to life just like he brought back to life his son Christ. Here's what the resurrection power can do for us. Resurrection power is believing God can save my family members, my co-workers, and friends, no matter how far from God they seem. The resurrection power that took place that when God raised his son from uh the grave, is believing God can give me the hope I need to keep going in depression. Resurrection power is believing God can heal communities broken by gang violence and and police brutality. Resurrection power is believing God can save my loveless marriage after an affair. Resurrection power is believing God can rescue me from my addiction to drugs, alcohol, or sex. Resurrection power is believing God will one day raise me from the grave. One day we will be with him in glory and we are part of his inheritance. Amen. Lord, I pray for wisdom and we pray for revelation and that you would enlighten the eyes of the heart that we would be able to see and discern. And because of this, we can defeat sin. We can overcome pain. We can actually be a loving person, a kind person, and we actually can have gifts for the body. God gives you the spirit of wisdom and revelation that the eyes of your heart are enlightened. I think I have let's put that on this on the screen. I'm praying today that God gives you the spirit of wisdom and revelation that the eyes of your heart are enlightened. I know that's simple. I know it's it's uh uh maybe so elementary or so basic, but God tells me to take him for his word. Amen. I take him at his word. I believe this is the inspired word of God. And I believe that Paul has put this here for a reason and a purpose. So, we're going to end this morning. Come on to to to the keys. Kind of different than we've than we've ever ever done before. In fact, um I can actually uh pray this prayer um in in just a moment. And usually at the end of the service, I usually say, you are loved. Uh God is crazy about you. And I want you to know this morning, you are loved and God is crazy about you. And maybe this is maybe the one of the most unique ways to end a service. And it could it could take two minutes, it could take 10 minutes, could take five minutes. But what I want to do in conclusion, and I'm going against everything in the book right now as far as church, church health or church growth. Uh meaning they they say, you know, there's some new there's some new faces here today. There's some there's some new friends that are here in the room. And uh just want you to know this is not about being trying to be awkward, but I just truly believe God's word and I believe he'll bless us just kind of stepping into this. But this on the on the screen right here, I want you to get into in some groups this morning because we're a church. We're a community. I know some of you are brand new and and that's okay. We we we we bring you in. But even as simple as this is, I'm going to I want to leave this on the screen because sometimes I have a I mean, I'm just I'm still trying to memorize our declaration. Um Jonathan, you almost had it down all the way. uh you started without it on the screen, but I want us to get into a group of group of three, group of four, group of two if you need be. And uh our our leaders here in the house, I want to make sure that you look around and you make sure you make sure that no one's alone. And I want to pray this prayer. I want you to pray this prayer. Maybe call someone someone's name out. Say, Rita, today I'm praying that God gives you the spirit of wisdom and revelation and that the eyes of your heart will be enlightened. That you're going to begin to see things. You're going to be able to experience things. You're going to have dreams in the night and vision in the day. And those things that are have been a challenge to you in life, you you're going to see clearly now the rain is gone. How about that? You're you're you're going to see so crystal clear now in those moments.
