They'd given so much to our church. They've blessed blessed my wife and I so much and that's who we need to be as a church. We need to be honoring and we need to be about legacy. Like like I've I've seen it too many times where one generation fails to pass the baton to the next. And then we're having to rebuild something new. Man, as a church and as a as a as a movement, we need to be better at raising up the next generation. And and iron sharpening iron. Like like nobody in this room has arrived with all wisdom and all knowledge. So, all right. We're in Joshua. Here we go. Joshua 2. Last week we were in Joshua 1 and I told you I'm going to be bouncing around a little bit. Everybody say bounce around. So, I'm I'm going to be bouncing a little bit, but I I really do want to stick in Joshua 2. Um we're we're going to be We talked last week about having a consecrated family, having a consecrated life, being being sanctified. You know, you you're saved in a moment, but you're consecrated and sanctified over a lifetime. It's through daily decisions that we make that that call us higher and that call us deeper in our relationship with God and becoming more like Jesus. That's the goal. Right? That we would become more and more like Jesus. And so, when you look in Joshua 2, you're going to see a name here. It's the name Rahab. And Rahab is a prostitute who lives in Jericho and the the people of God, Joshua is leading them into the promised land into Israel and now it's it's their job to possess the promise. Somebody say possess the promise. And they they send spies into Jericho and and they they meet this woman Rahab and some really amazing things happen. What's what's so cool and I'll say it now, say it at the end, but Rahab is actually in the genealogy of Jesus. When you look at all of the names of of people that that came before Jesus, going all the way back to to David and beyond, all the way to Abraham, Rahab is in the genealogy. Which I think is really interesting because why would the pure lamb of God have a prostitute in his lineage? And that's not knocking prostitutes. That's just speaking to purity. And I and I want to say today, no matter what your past may be, God can use you. And when you become a son and when you become a daughter, it doesn't matter all the things that you've done. It's like, "No, you're a part of this. You're a part of this family. You're a part of this lineage." And it's she sits in a place of honor now because of what she does here, being in the lineage of Jesus. So, Joshua 2:1-2. And Joshua, the son of Nun, he sent two men secretly from Shittim. I know what you thought it was going to say, but that's how it's pronounced, okay? Shittim. I looked it up. As spies saying, "Go view the land, especially Jericho." And they went and they came into the house of a prostitute whose name was Rahab, and they lodged there. And it was told to the king of Jericho, "Behold, men of Israel have come here tonight to search out the land." So, the king found out in Jericho that this was happening. This was this was going to be the first battle that Joshua was going to step into. Sent to fight. And some of you guys, you know the you know the song, "Joshua and the Battle of Jericho, Jericho, and the walls came tumbling down." Thank you. All right, cool. I wanted you to sing with me, but you know, you get one word. That's okay. But again, we we talked about Rahab. We've even talked about Rahab in the book of James, and we talked about how she was a woman of faith. Not just faith, but also action. And and I and I really just want to hit this home like you do not need as a family, you do not need to have a perfect house to protect your house. You don't need to have a perfect past to to protect your present. And you don't have to have a perfect history in order for your family to establish new generational patterns. It can it can it's going to end with you and start with you. You may have grown up your whole life and you may go, "Oh, I'm Italian so I'm like this or oh, my dad said this about me and this was handed down from his grandmother or this and that." No, it stops with me and it starts with me. And things are going to shift because of it. And so I I love this again, Joshua 2:4, but the woman had taken the two men when when the soldiers of Jericho were coming and what did she do? She had them hidden. She hid them in her house. Rahab did the right thing by hiding the two spies because they were people of God. Again, Rahab was was far from perfect but she lived in the city that was about to be destroyed. And she knew this. She sensed this and we even see this in scripture. Again, God can can use you no matter what your background may be. You just need to have one moment of faith in action. There may be consequences that you have to deal with in your life. Like like I'm not about you going, "Oh, I'm a new person so the old me that's just not me anymore." Like you're talking to who I used to be, not who I am now. No, there may be consequences to the things that you've done and you got to deal with them. But we walk in the newness of life that God has given us cuz we hold that truth that Jesus has made us new. But Rahab, she made a choice. It wasn't just like out of pressure. She knew that she needed to protect her home and protect her family. Like I don't know about you but every night we go through a routine. We've got four kids, Ali, Zoe, Nikki, Levi. And uh we go through a routine. It starts with pajamas. It's usually around like 7:30, sometimes earlier cuz bedtime's 8:00. And they got to get their PJs on, they got to brush their teeth, they got to fill up their water bottles, they got to get their tissues. We have way too many things in our in our routine. Our kids are spoiled, that's just how it goes. Um and then we always pray. We always pray before before we go to bed. And sometimes it's the the same prayer every single night. And I mean, our kids know the words, but many times it's No, we're going to pray specifically for these these different things and for each of our of our children. Um because we want them to become mighty men and women of God. And we pray that every night. And it's it's a it's a spiritual moment. But but what my kids don't see are the routines that my wife and I go through every single night. Because the first thing I do once it's time for bed is I lock all the doors. You should lock all your doors. It used to be that you didn't have to lock your doors in Franklin, Tennessee, but you need to lock your doors now. And I make sure all the doors are locked. And so my first point today as I get into this message is lock the door. If you're going to secure your family, if you're going to protect your family, you got to lock the door. So again, Rahab took the two men. She hid them. And in this moment, Rahab made a clear decision to only let the right people inside. She didn't let the the soldiers of Jericho to come in to her house. She she locked the door and even redirected them. So, "Hey, sorry, they're not here. You need to go somewhere else." Or or they're not here, you need to go pursue them over in this place. This is what says says in Joshua 2. You need to lock the door. And you need to lock the door spiritually in your life. You need to lock the door spiritually in your family, speaking about your homes today. You have to be a gatekeeper, a watchman in your house. You You need to lock the door as people come and go into your house. You And you shouldn't be surprised when when someone is in your home when you didn't lock the door. You shouldn't be surprised when when things are coming your way and there's attacks and new new information coming into your house because you haven't been spiritually aware and been a gatekeeper in your home. Like you can't have a spiritually filled home with an open door to compromise. Like what's coming into your house through the television, through your cell phone, music, video games, social media. What's coming through the areas of your house that you need to lock up? Like my my my kids constantly leave the door open. They're playing outside. They're letting the air conditioning out of the house. And I I know when a door is is unlocked or open whenever I get bit by a mosquito. Y'all know what I'm talking about or I see some fly just like circling my lunch, you know, in in in the in the kitchen. It's because somebody left the door open. There are signs that you know and you see like oh this shouldn't be in my house. There must be an area of my life that needs to be consecrated. There must be an area that I've been compromising in. So again, every night we lock the door. Why? Because we don't want anyone coming into the house that shouldn't be. We lock the door. God doesn't lock my door. I don't I don't leave the doors open and go to bed at night and say Lord, please protect me. No, I lock the door. And then I pray, Lord, please protect me. There's practical things that we can be doing to protect our family not just in the physical but in the the spiritual. And cuz it's interesting to me how many times we pray for God to do things that we are practically capable of. Like this might mess with your theology and and I am perfectly okay with this. But why pray to the God who's capable of the impossible for things that are possible with man? We we we go to God and we pray, "Lord, would you would you take care of my my marriage?" Well, what are you doing to to work on it? God, I need I I need reconciliation with with my family, with this child. It's like, "Okay, well, what steps are you taking to see that take place?" There's so many practical things that we just we put on God and then then we we go like, "Oh, oh, God just must not be ready to do this." But if we would in our in our in our walk begin to walk in the practical and be purposeful and intentional with the things that I'm capable of doing in my own strength and then I rely on God for all the impossible. I think this would would shift how we pray. Like when was the last time we prayed for the impossible? Something that was truly impossible. For for God to come and do a healing in someone's life. We we I mean we prayed for that during worship today. But many times we're praying for something that that's possible in our own power. And I and I feel like God wants to just shift your heart today and say there are things that you can start doing intentionally, purposefully in your life. Consecration. Steps that we can be taking. Let God handle the impossible. Let God do the thing that only he can do. Like like maybe maybe this is this is this is just me, but like I don't think God really gets the glory for fulfilling something that we could have done. And you can you can send emails to Kim at Full Life AG if you don't like that statement. My mom, yeah. I love it. Here's the thing like I can't control what I can't control. But I can pray to the God who's in control. And so we we we step into the practical, we get purposeful in our lives. Like I'm sharing scripture with my kids. I'm praying with my with my wife. I'm not just saying, "Oh God, you know, help my marriage." It's like, "No, I'm being intentional with it." We're going on on date nights, you know, we're we're being intentional with with intimacy and and communication, all these different things. We try to we treat God like he's some kind of genie sometimes, but he there there are steps that we need to be taking in consecration that lead us away from being in a position of compromise. You need to lock the door. I love this. Matthew 6:6, many of you know this verse, but when you pray, go into your room and close the door and pray to your father who is unseen. Then your father who sees what's done in secret will reward you. Go into your room. Close the door. Your house, your home needs to be a place where you have a closed door policy on all attacks of the enemy. All areas of of compromise. Whatever the enemy tries to do, you're coming into this house that has a locked door. This house is holy ground. This house is a safe space to encounter God for my myself, for my wife, for my for my children. Go into your home, lock the door, turn off the the devices, and and spend time with God. We give access to so many people and so much information, but are we giving God full access? Cuz here's what's so cool like you lock the door, you be intentional, and God will meet you even when the door is closed. Look at this in John 20:19, on the evening of the first day of the week when the disciples were together with the doors locked for fear of Jewish leaders. So, they were fearful of people from the outside. Jesus came and stood among them and said, "Peace be with you." Jesus Jesus can get through a locked door. That's right. Let's lock the door to all of these other areas of compromise. You need to invite Jesus in and you keep the devil out. Like we don't lock our doors to keep our kids in. We're not one of those families. It's kind of weird. We lock the door to keep the evil out. I pray today over over every single house in this in this church that the peace of God would be inside of your home. That it would be holy ground. That the presence of Jesus would be evident inside your home. That you would be vigilant to see what doors need to be locked again, TV, internet, substances, even the words that are coming out of your mouth. Lock the door. Let the word of God be on your lips. In Joshua 1:8, going back to what we talked about last week, the book of the law shall not depart from your mouth. Means you keep the word of God on your lips. You shall meditate on the word day and night so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it. And I love this, for then you will we you will make your way prosperous and then you will have good success. Let your home be a sacred space for the word of God to be read, for the spirit of God to dwell, that you would meditate and you would let it come out of you in action. It's when we follow God's way that we prosper and have success. Not just when we believe, but when we follow his way. When we do the words that he says. So, I want to challenge you just practically today. Is there a space in your home that you encounter God? Is there a Is there a closet? Is there an office space? Is there a desk? Is there a bedroom? Like I know I know some of you Instagram girls, you get on there and you have this like perfectly highlighted Bible with the coffee and the and the flower and you take that picture. Like I've I've I've seen I've seen it. You've got a space. You make space for these moments to take place because when you have a space, it creates expectation. This is the spot that I'm going to encounter the Lord. And married couples, like we're going to get real fun here this morning. Your master bedroom should be a sacred space for you and your spouse. If you have an open door policy in your bedroom where your kids can come in or share your bed with you, the problem with that is it it jeopardizes the intimacy that the parents should be having. Like I get it. Sometimes kids wet the bed. And they want to snuggle with mommy. But our bedroom is a place of intimacy. Like my my children cannot come between me and my wife. Because once they're gone and grown, she's all I got left. They will not drive a wedge between us. And our our kids know because we've had this conversation. We don't We don't lock doors, bedroom doors in the house. But if mommy and daddy's door is locked, you're not coming in. Y'all know what I'm saying? All right. Our code phrase is, "Hey, you want to put on a TV show and uh go upstairs?" Lock the door. But hear me. How many How many times do we have an open door policy to everything else? I mean, your relationship with the Lord. There's There's an intimacy and a growth that can take place between you and God if you'll be intentional about having a closed door policy. Like maybe you need to turn on some VeggieTales so the kids can go play and you get on your face before God. Like I'm all I'm all about, you know, being all in as a parent, but sometimes we get we get so helicopter-y as as parents that we never actually spend time with God and he's our source. He's our source. He's the one that fuels us and gives us the ability to parent well. Again, Matthew 6:6, it says close the door. Spend time with him. Be intentional about it. If we don't make time for intimacy with our spouse, what happens? We get distant. We're unloving. It gets harder for me to hear her and listen to her and her her me. It's the same thing with God. When we don't have regular time with the Lord, it gets harder and harder to hear him. So this week be unreachable for 30 minutes and spend time with the Lord. Turn on the VeggieTales and and and get on your face before God. You got to lock the door. You got to set boundaries and filters in place. Making our house a secret place, a place of rules, a place of boundaries because I'm responsible for my family. You are responsible for your family. Much like Rahab was responsible for protecting those inside of her house. The second thing you got to do, I locked the doors and then I set the alarm. Rahab didn't just want safety for herself, she interceded for her entire family. We'll see it here in a second in scripture. The prayers that we have as as people of God is an alarm. An alarm that we're setting, an alarm that is is going off. It's to alert heaven and it's to warn hell. Somebody say warn hell. I know, you just said hell in church. I can't believe you did that. When I pray in my house and I intercede over my wife or I intercede over my children, I'm setting the alarm. I'm putting hell on notice. That That you may come at me, but my God is protecting me. Cuz I've already prayed, I've already set the alarm and if you start coming at me, the alarm is going to go off and heaven's armies are going to come in on you. No evil will come into this house. Because I'm not just setting the alarm physically, but it's spiritual. When you try to breach the door, God is going to come. Look at this in in Joshua 2:8-13. Before the men laid down, she came up to them in the roof on the roof and said to the men, "I know, this is so good. Don't miss this. I know that the Lord has given you the land. And that the fear of you has fallen upon us. And that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea before you came out of Egypt when you came out of Egypt. And what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan to Sihon and Og whom you devoted to destruction. And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted and there was no spirit left in any man because of you. For the Lord your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath. And then now then, please swear to me by the Lord that as I've dealt kindly with you, you also will deal kindly with my father's house. And give me a sure sign that you will save alive my father and mother, my brothers and sisters, and all who belong to them, and deliver our lives from death." This is so good. And and and just to give like a history here, the the Israelites were wandering in the desert for 40 years. And so they as a people in Jericho had heard about what took place 40 years prior to all this happening. And it still burned fear inside of them that God is the God of all gods, and that he can move in power. And so there was a fear, a healthy fear of the Lord of like, "I can't protect my family on my own. I need the God of the impossible to take care of me and my family." And so she contends, and you can even see this as a prayer as she's pleading with them, "Please, would you protect my family? I've taken a a step of faith here in this direction. I'm rejecting the city that I belong to. I'm rejecting my past so that I can get closer to you. That you would protect me." Again, it's fearing God is recognizing your need for him. It's not, "Oh, I'm afraid of God." No, it's "I'm afraid of doing anything without God." Needing him to protect my family. Rahab, she took action. She recognized that God is more powerful than her own strength. And this moved her to action, pleading with them. Could we pray like this for our family? Could we pray and know, again, we can do what's possible, but we pray to God for the impossible? God, there are things that I cannot control that are coming at my children, that are coming at my my family, and at my spouse, would you do what only you can do and reroute the enemy? Would you protect me even when the world is crashing all around me and the walls of Jericho are falling, would you protect my family? Because I know that you are God of power. Does your family know that you fear the Lord like this? When's the last time that you that your kids heard you praying for them? When's the last time that you had intentional time of spiritual conversation with your children or with friends in your life? Do they know that you fear God? Or they just know that you go to church? Deuteronomy 6 6 through 7 And these words that I command you today, the word of God, shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children. You shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. You shall bind them as a sign on your hand and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. You shall write them on the doorpost of your house and on your gates. Like at home, we have intentional time where we talk about the things of God. Not just like how was your day, but what is God speaking to you? What scripture did you read this week? What what JBQ question did you memorize this week? If you If your kids aren't in Junior Bible Quiz, I would strongly encourage you to get them in there. My kids know the Bible better than I do now. We can get you there. Yeah, I'll get there, you know, I'll get there someday. Because here's the thing, like if if you are not the source for your children for your for your family they're going to be informed in other places. Right. Like you don't know what kind of advice they're receiving from their kid other kids in school. And I I I refuse to let my children's friends be the only source of advice in their life. Like when I'm on the road, we are blasting worship music. Sometimes it's Christian rap music, but that's okay, you know, it's got Jesus in there. It's great. And they know all the words and it's awesome. Let them hear you praising. Let them hear you praying. It's not out of performance. It's to show them how to worship God. Sing praises to God at bedtime. Lay hands on your children and pray over them. Try to have a a morning routine where you allow God to speak. And this is my prayer for for everyone in the room today. That God would hear your children's names on your lips. That your children would hear you praying for them, over them every single day. That your wife, that your family members, even your friends, like you you will you will change a a friend's mind and attitude when you say, "Hey, I pray for you every single day." And you actually do. So, we we lock the doors, we set the alarm, we put hell on notice, and the third thing is we cover the windows. When my wife and I first got married, um she was a full-time night shift nurse. She did like three shifts, four shifts a week. And uh we bought blackout shades. Somebody say amen for some blackout shades. They're they're they're I don't know I don't know what it is. Like you go into this room and it doesn't matter what time it is, you have no idea what time it is. Cuz it is so dark in there, you can't even see your hand in front of your your face. I think it's kind of a blessing to not know what time it is when you're spending time with God. But I love this in Joshua 2:18. It says, "Behold, when we come into the land, you shall tie this scarlet cord in the window through which you let us down. And you shall gather into your house your father, your mother, your brothers, and all your father's household." The scarlet cord that was hung there, it wasn't just like a a symbol, it was a declaration that this house belongs to God. Are there things in your house that show that your house belongs to God? Are you praying for the sick in your home first before you rush to the Tylenol? Like I I don't I don't know what kind of house you have, but you should give your house to God. Like I'm responsible for protecting this house. I'm even responsible for protecting this church. But your house is your responsibility. So they marked the windows with a scarlet cord saying again, "As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord." And so there's things that we can be doing in our home that may seem kind of weird to everyone outside of our home, but that's okay because this is our house. We're making decisions to serve the Lord. And so there are things that we're going to do that other people may not do. And there are things that other people are going to do that are not allowed in this house. Like growing up, uh when everyone else was watching like Nickelodeon and stuff at a young age, I was watching VeggieTales. Come on, somebody. Y'all know what VeggieTales is? When some were watching Disney Channel, I was watching Salty the Songbook, somebody. Some of y'all don't even know who Salty the Songbook is. He's a giant Bible or a giant songbook, I don't know, but he he had blue face. He was a very scary clown. Um, but he loved Jesus. Um, some may have watched Batman, Superman, and Spiderman, but we were watching Bibleman. He had a yellow lightsaber. He was really cool. Some kids were watching Sesame Street, we were watching Davey and Goliath claymation. I didn't get an amen cuz y'all don't even know what that is. But we didn't watch Scooby Doo. I was really upset about that. We didn't watch Scooby Doo. We watched Superbook and McGee and Me. We were singing I'm in the Lord's army and the fruit of the spirit when everyone else was singing Michael Jackson. At a young age, my parents weren't going to allow an ounce of worldly influence into our house. And that might seem like really really extreme. But I feel like I turned out okay. Jury's still out. They weren't that strict, but eventually we discovered Star Wars and Jurassic Park and Lord of the Rings and all the things. But we had scripture all over our home. It was like part of the decor of our house. You know, a room was not complete unless there was a scripture verse on the wall, I felt like. My wife today, she puts sticky notes on the mirrors in our kids bathroom and in our bathroom just to remind them what God says about them. It's important that you mark your house with the blood of the lamb. It's important that you mark your house with with scripture, those reminders that we make decisions that others may do this, but we will not because we need to be intentional. We need to be intentional. And even if you're you're not married, you don't have kids, your house needs to be a sacred space where you can encounter God. You need to be intentional about who you allow into your home, what you allow into your home. Because again, if if everything and everyone has access, they're going to take all that time. They're going to take all of those moments, and then we end up giving God the crumbs of what's left over. Like I love I love this. They're actually They're here today. I'm not going to call you out, but I was talking to a a couple in this church that actually created a family motto for their for their family. And I just think this is so cool. Like like this is how we're going to live. This is the vision for our household. There's other other families in this church that actually have like a a prayer room in their house, where they've cleared out a closet and they've got a pictures on the wall of things that they're praying for as a family. A prayer room. A space where we can come together and be reminded again and again of here is the promise that we're that we're pursuing. Here Here Here's the thing that God is wanting to see happen. And And today, church, I think that's one of the most practical things you can do. Like I know we have like sayings and stuff, like, you know, hey, you're a servant. What do servants do? They do hard things. But is there is there a vision statement that you can create for your house that says, "As for me and my house, we're going to serve the Lord, and this is what it's going to look like. This is what it's going to sound like. That all of our children, that everyone in our household, that this is how we choose to live. It can be one statement, it can be three statements, whatever it looks like. Maybe you need to create a mantra for your home. A a vision statement for your house. It's important that you realize that you need to make a decision on how your kids are going to be raised. That it's not accidental. That it's purposeful. What spirit does your house carry? When someone comes into your home, do they sense the presence of God? When someone comes into your home, do they know that God comes and visits you daily? Is their faith stirred up? What spirit's upon your house? The last here, we need to secure the family. That might seem like this isn't needed. We're We're talking about securing the family. But I just I want to hit this so hard. In Joshua 6, when the walls of Jericho came tumbling down, Rahab the prostitute and her father's household and all who belonged to her, Joshua saved a life. And she was living in Israel to this day because she hid the messengers whom Joshua sent to spy out Jericho. When we're intentional about raising our family, our household in Christ, even when the world is crashing down all around you, there is protection. There is redemption. And there is provision for your children. Like look what God did for someone who was not living for God, but made decisions to follow the Lord and lock the door. Who got a hold of God and chose to protect her family. Like are are your children safe from the attack of the enemy? Would you Would your children be spared if demons were assigned to your home? I'm I'm I'm kind of wrapping up here, but I I don't want to end like on this note, so just just go with me. But I heard this story recently, Keenan Clark was talking about it, where they were flying and this woman on the plane, they were handing out food to everybody, you know, like you do on a plane, you get a meal or whatever, and she said, "No, I'm not eating. I'm fasting." And the person sitting next to her was like, "Oh, you must be a Christian. I'm a Christian. I fast sometimes, too." And she said, "No, I'm not a Christian. I'm a witch. And I'm going to this Wiccan convention, and we're all fasting in anticipation to combine our powers together so that we can curse pastors' kids and Christian children." And I was just like, "Are you Are you kidding me?" Like, this is wild. That that that people would be fasting to curse a child. And then And then I I wonder how many of us would fast to protect our household. How many of us would fast and pray and begin to to stir up the spirit of God within us so that we can move in power, that we can cast out the demon as it's assigned to our home and assigned to our children. I'm not trying to to to bring fear into this house. I'm I'm trying to wake us up. That the enemy has a plan for your child, and if you don't have a plan for your child, if you don't have a plan for your marriage, if you don't have a plan for your own life, the enemy's going to write the plan for you. Let it stir your faith today that we need to be intentional. And stop treating God like this this genie lamp that we rub. Like, "Oh God, would you take care of all of these things that I'm perfectly capable of being purposeful in?" We can live consecrated. It's through the power of the Holy Spirit within us that gives us the power and ability to walk and live this way. It's not religious legalism like, "I got to do do do all these things." No, there's a power that we receive when we pray, when we fast, when we come before the Lord and choose to live differently than the rest of the world. That's what consecration is. It's living set apart for God's purpose. We've got We've got witches and warlocks cursing our children. And then we just go, "Oh, I just take them to church and they learn about Jesus." But we don't talk about Jesus on Monday. You know, we pray on Sunday. We don't pray throughout the the week. Again, we as a church, we need to pray for our children. We need to fast for them. And we need to recognize that the enemy is prowling like a roari
